دع عنك ضربك أخماساً لأسداس

دع عنك ضربك أخماساً لأسداس

Tell the emir—and there is no harm in the truth—

Say to the prince, for right has no power -

Stop your dithering, reckoning fives against sixes.

Cease your cruel blows upon the poor.

من اثنتين فلا تبخل بواحدةٍ

من اثنتين فلا تبخل بواحدةٍ

إمّا النوال وإما راحة الياس

إمّا النوال وإما راحة الياس

Of two things, do not begrudge one:

If you have two, do not begrudge giving one away -

Either a gift, or the relief of giving up hope.

Either prosperity or relief from despair.
