شوقlonging إلىfor وجههhis face سيُدنِفُهُwill make him waste away
Sulayman's rival has been afflicted
Solomon's horn has harmed him
by longing for his face that will make him waste away.
With yearning for his beloved's face it will afflict him
أعرضturned away عنfrom قرنهhis rival وصدَّand shunned فماso not
أصبحnow is شيءanything عليهtoward him يعطفهmakes him turn
He has turned away from his rival and shunned him, so
He turned away from his horn so nothing
nothing now turns him back toward him.
Would distract him in the morning
كمhow often يَعِدُhe promises القرنthe rival باللقاءa meeting وكمand how often
يكذبhe lies فيin وعدهhis promise ويخلفهand breaks it
How often he promises his rival a meeting, and how often
How often the horn promises a meeting yet
he lies in his promise and breaks it!
How often it lies in its promise and betrays him
لاnot يعرفrecognizes القِرنُthe rival وجههhis face ويرىand sees
قفاهthe back of his neck منfrom فرسخa parasang فيعرفهand so recognizes it
His rival does not recognize his face, yet sees
The horn knows not his beloved's face though it sees
the back of his neck from a parasang away and recognizes it.
His rear from a mile away and recognizes him
