Souls have thirsted—not for water,
Souls thirsting not for water but for the tumult of frontiers,
but for the saliva of lips;
Eyes shedding tears of compassion for the glooms, yearning for the masks of the knights,

ض اشتياقاً إلى لِثام البدور
And eyes have refused to incline toward sleep,
Hearts that find their cure from anguish in the breasts of lances above the chests,
longing to kiss the full moons;
Passion that will not vanish as long as there are ringlets fluttering on the branches above the enclosures.
