فلا تمنعوا مني شفاءَ غليلي
Sons of Tahir, if you withhold your bounty,
O sons of Tahir, if you have denied me your generosity,
then do not deny me relief from my burning thirst.
Then do not deny me the cure for my sickness.

وأندبُ مدحي فيكمُ بعويلِ
Let me blame myself for having placed my hopes in you,
Let me blame my soul for hoping in you,
and mourn my praise of you with wailing.
And mourn my praise of you with wailing.

بني طاهرٍ بالعرضِ غيرُ بخيلِ
Nor begrudge me your honor, for all of you,
Do not be stingy with me, for all of you
sons of Tahir, are not stingy with your honor.
Sons of Tahir, are not stingy in honor.

Reward me with your reputations, already torn,
Help me, though I have torn my clothes
torn like the rags on a wayfarer.
To shreds, like a wayfarer’s rags.

And do not deem them meager for show and renown,
Do not disdain to give them out of pretense and reputation,
for their like, in the likes of you, is no small thing.
For the like of them is not too little for the like of you.

فلومُكُمُ في الناسِ غيرُ مُخيلِ
Sons of Tahir, whatever may seem doubtful to a man,
O sons of Tahir, however much a man presumes,
your blameworthiness among men is beyond doubt.
Blaming you among people is not seemly.

By the life of the rhymes that turned the pale camels toward you,
By the life of slender waists that incline toward you,
they have indeed halted at a barren spot in your abode.
The she-camel has indeed stopped at your abode.
