قولاsay, you two لسُمَّانَةto Summānah كَهْفِcavern of الزناfornication
قولا لسُمَّانَة كَهْفِ الزنا
سبحانَglory be to منthe One who وسَّعmade spacious أحْشاكِyour innards
سبحانَ من وسَّع أحْشاكِ
Say, you two, to Summānah, cavern of fornication:
Say to the cave of fornication, Summana:
Glory be to Him who made your innards spacious.
Glory to Him who expanded your insides
يغيبُvanishes ماءُwater (semen) الناسpeople عنfrom أسْرهمtheir bodily frames
يغيبُ ماءُ الناس عن أسْرهم
فيكِwithin you ولاand not تُبْسطُare stretched أَثناكِyour folds
فيكِ ولا تُبْسطُ أَثناكِ
Men’s water vanishes from their bodies
The water of people disappears from their beds
within you, yet your folds are not stretched.
In you, and your sides are not stretched
ياO أرضُearth هلwhether حُمِّلْتِyou were laden فيwithin وُسْعهاher capacity
يا أرضُ هل حُمِّلْتِ في وُسْعها
باللَّهby God مذsince حُمِّلْتِyou were made to bear أَعباكِyour burdens
باللَّه مذ حُمِّلْتِ أَعباكِ
O earth, have you been laden to her capacity,
O earth, were you burdened beyond your capacity
by God, since you were made to bear your burdens?
By Allah, since you were burdened with your burdens
كأنماas though يُوحىrevelation is sent إلىto رِحْمهاher womb
كأنما يُوحى إلى رِحْمها
وقيلand it was said ياO أرضُearth ابلعيswallow ماكِyour water
وقيل يا أرضُ ابلعي ماكِ
As though revelation were being sent to her womb,
As if it was inspired into her womb
and it were said: ‘O earth, swallow your water.’
And told: O earth swallow your water
