رُدّيreturn التحيةَthe greeting منfrom وراءِbehind حجابِكِyour veil
رَدّmay restore الإلهُGod قُلوبَناour hearts بإيابِكِwith your return
Return the greeting from behind your veil.
Return my greeting from behind your veil
May God restore our hearts with your return.
God has returned our hearts with your return
قدindeed كُنْتُI used to آنسُfind solace بالمرورِin passing ببابكِby your door
فالآنbut now أُوحَشُI am left desolate إذsince غدَوْاthey set out بركابِكِwith your riding camels
I used to find solace in passing by your door.
I used to find solace in passing by your abode
But now I am desolate, since they set out with your riding camels.
Now I'm forlorn when they depart with your mount
ماnot المَوْتُdeath فيin سكراتِهِits throes بأشدَّany harsher مِنْthan
وجْديmy anguish عشيَّةon the evening آذنواthey announced بذَهابِكِof your departure
Death in its throes is no harsher than
Death in its intoxication is not more intense
my anguish that evening when they announced your departure.
Than my torment the eve they announced your leaving
فتيقَّنيso be certain أنْthat قدindeed قتلْتِyou killed فتىًa youth لهhe has
قلبٌa heart تشحَّطَwrithed فيin أليمِagonizing عذابِكِyour torment
So be certain that you have indeed killed a youth whose
So know that you've slain a man whose heart
heart writhed in your agonizing torment.
Was shredded by the pain of your torment
ماwhat للْمطيِّwith the riding camels تخاذلتْgave way أركانُهُits supporting limbs
لمّاwhen غداset out مُتقاذِفاًswaying to and fro بقبابِكِwith your canopied litters
What ails the riding camels, whose legs gave way
Why did the stead's legs weaken and falter
when they set out, swaying with your canopied litters,
When it set out jostled by your camel litter
وتزايلَتْand fell apart أوصالُهits limbs عنaway from رحْلِهِits saddle
إذْwhen بتَّwas severed حَبْليmy cord منfrom عُراthe loops أسبابِكِyour cords
and whose limbs fell away from their saddles
And its limbs detached from its saddle
when my cord was severed from the loops of your cords?
When my rope was cut from the cords of your causes
