ياoh ليتَwould that أهلَpeople of العقلَreason إذwhen حُرِمُواthey were deprived
عُصِمُواthey were protected منfrom الشهواتِdesires والفتنِand temptations
Oh, would that people of reason, when deprived,
If only the wise, when deprived
Were protected from desires and temptations.
Were protected from desires and trials
لكنهُمْbut they حُرِمواthey were deprived وماand not عُصِمُواthey were protected
فقلوبُهُمْso their hearts مرضَىsick منfrom الحَزَنsorrow
But they were deprived and were not protected,
But they were deprived and not protected
So their hearts are sick with sorrow.
So their hearts are sick with sorrow
وكأنّand as though أهلَpeople of العقلreason إذْwhen خُلِقُواthey were created
وُقِفَتْwere set apart قلوبهمُtheir hearts علىfor المحنِtribulations
And it is as though, when people of reason were created,
It's as if the wise, when created
Their hearts were set apart for tribulations.
Had their hearts destined for tribulations
وهمُand they أحسُّmore keenly aware علىamid بَلِيَّتِهمْtheir affliction
منthan غيرِهمothers besides them بمضاضةِof the bitter sting of الغبنinjustice
And amid their affliction they are more keenly aware
And they feel their misfortune
Than others of the bitter sting of injustice.
More bitterly than others' injustice
