منwhom ذاis it that تكيدyou scheme against إذاwhen التقىmeet السَّيْلانthe two torrents
Oh, if only I knew about you, O Harmani:
Oh how I wish my poetry could reach you, my deprivation
Whom will you scheme against when the two torrents meet?
Who can scheme when floods collide?
سيانthe same عنديto me يومَon the day ذاكthat أكِدْتنيdid you scheme against me?
أمor بُلْتَyou urinated حيثُwhere تناطحَlocked horns البحرانِthe two seas
On that day, it will be all the same to me whether you scheme against me
It's all the same to me on that day you deceived me
or urinate where the two seas lock horns.
Or are you lost where two seas clash?
وأظنُّand I believe ظنَّاًa belief كاليقينlike certainty وثاقةًin firmness
أنيthat I وأنكand that you ثَمَّthere مُصطحبانaccompanying each other
And I believe—with a belief as firm as certainty—
And I'm certain, with certainty like belief
that you and I will be companions there,
That I and you were once companions
نَبْغيwe seek جميعاًtogether نجوةًhigh ground نَنْجوwe find safety بهاby means of it
مماfrom what يُطيفُcircles بناaround us منof الطوفانthe deluge
together seeking high ground where we may find safety
We all want deliverance by which we'd be saved
from the deluge that surrounds us.
From what surrounds us of storms

نَسِيَhas forgotten الغريقthe drowning man شَكِيَّةَthe complaint العطشانِof the thirsty man
And I say, when every grudge dies:
And I say, when every swimmer dies
The drowning man has forgotten the thirsty man's complaint.
The drowned forgets the thirst of the parched
