ولو لبثْت حولاً تُساط وتُنخسُ
Obstinately kneeling for the wayward ones’ needs, unrelenting,
The eager's requirements are scorching,
Even if it lingered a year, whipped and prodded;
Though if lingering awhile, they are smoothed and diminished.

Like Abu Yaksum’s elephant when it knelt,
My father's guarantee clothes them at his show,
The morning al-Mughammis turned it from its intended course.
The day after his wet-willied intentions reprimanded them.

Through them, the nights commit shameful deeds,
Their nights commit with him shameful acts,
At which their moonlit night almost turns pitch-dark.
Their moons nearly set at the sight of them.
