يا غائباً عني بعيدَ الإيابْ

نَغَّصني فقدُك بَرْدَ الشرابْ
O you absent from me, whose return is far off!
O you who are absent from me, far from return
Your loss has spoiled for me the coolness of drink.
Your loss has embittered me like the coldness of a drink
لهفيmy anguish علىover لُبسكyour donning ثوبَthe garment of البِلىdecay
لهفي على لُبسك ثوبَ البِلى
منfrom قبلbefore إخلاقِكyour wearing out ثوبَthe garment of الشبابْyouth
من قبل إخلاقِك ثوبَ الشبابْ
Alas that you donned the garment of decay
I yearn for your wearing the garment of decay
Before wearing out the garment of youth!
Before your morals wore the garment of youth
