يتجنَّىfalsely accuses علىagainst الرياحthe winds الذُّنوباthe offenses
O son of Harb, you clothed me in a mantle
O son of war, you clothed me in a garment
That falsely accuses the winds of wrongdoing.
That flutters in the winds of sin.
طيلسانٌa mantle إذاwhen تنفستُI breathed فيهin it
صاحَit cried out يشكوit complains of الصَّباthe east wind ويشكوand it complains of الجنوباthe south wind
A mantle that, whenever I breathe in it,
A garment - when I breathe in it -
Cries out, complaining of the east wind and the south wind.
Cries out, complaining of the east wind and the south wind.
وتهبand blow الرياحُthe winds فيin أرضland غيريsomeone other than me
فتهبso spring up الفُزورُthe rents فيهin it هُبوباa surging
And the winds blow across someone else's land,
And the winds blow in the land of others,
So rents spring up in it in a rush.
So they blow the dust storms in it with gusts.
تتغنىsings إحدىone of نواحيهits sides صوتاًa tune

One of its sides sings a tune,
One of its sides sings a voice,
So the other rends its collars in response.
While the other tears its pockets over it.

لنwill not يكونَbe الكريمُthe noble one إلاexcept طروباgiven to rapture
And when I reproach it, it says, "Easy!
So if I reproach it, it says, "Wait!
The noble will never be anything but rapturous."
The generous will only be gentle."
طالgrew long رَفْويmy darning لهfor it فأودىso it did away بكسبيwith my earnings
ياO ابنson of حربHarb تركتنيyou left me محروباbereft of wealth
My darning of it has gone on so long that it has consumed my earnings.
My intimacy with it was long, so it destroyed my earnings.
O son of Harb, you have left me penniless.
O son of war, you left me plundered.
