يا درة البحر ضمها الصدفُ
وياand O هلالاًcrescent moon منfrom دونهbefore it السدفُthe darkness
ويا هلالاً من دونه السدفُ
O pearl of the sea, embraced by a shell,
O pearl of the sea, enclosed in its shell
And O crescent moon, screened by darkness!
O crescent whose light the clouds do dispel
قلبيmy heart عنfrom العالمينall people منصرفturned away
قلبي عن العالمين منصرف
وليسand there is no ليfor me عنfrom هواكlove for you منصرفway to turn away
وليس لي عن هواك منصرف
My heart has turned away from all others,
My heart turned away from all worldly affairs
Yet I cannot turn away from loving you.
And not distracted, from love for you it ne'er strays
حتامhow long لاnot نلتقيwe meet علىin دعةease
حتام لا نلتقي على دعة
وطيبand the sweetness of عيشlife مناof our own فنأتلفso we unite
وطيب عيش منا فنأتلف
How long shall we fail to meet in ease
Alas, in comfort we'll never unite
And a sweet life of our own, so that we may unite?
And not in sweet life each other delight
