ياO سيِّداًlord يهَبُhe bestows الأقدارَhigh standing مُقْتَدراًpossessed of power
كماjust as غداhe has come to يهَبُhe bestows الأموالَwealth والنِّعماand blessings
O lord who, in your power, bestows high standing,
O Lord who grants destinies, All-Powerful,
Just as you have come to bestow wealth and blessings,
Just as you grant wealth and blessings,
هَبْgrant ليto me مِنَof القدْرِstanding ماthat which ألقىI may face العَدُوَّthe enemy بهِwith it
مُكَذِّباًgiving the lie to كُلَّall ماthat which سدَّىhe contrived وماand that which زعماhe claimed
Grant me standing with which I may face my enemy,
Grant me from fate what the enemy attributed to me,
Belying all he has contrived and all he has claimed.
Denying all that he piled up and claimed.
أرْغِمْهُrub his nose in the dust فيَّon my account فقدfor indeed أضحىhe has come to يُراغِمُنيhe seeks to humiliate me
وزِدْهُand give him more رغماًhumiliation علىupon رغمhumiliation إذاwhen رغَماhe is humbled
Rub his nose in the dust for my sake, for he now seeks to humiliate me;
Make him submit to me, for he has made me submit to him,
And heap humiliation upon humiliation on him once he is humbled.
And increase his submission, if he has caused submission.
ولستُand I am not مستوجباًentitled to حظاًa share أُنَفَّلُهُI am granted it as a favor
منof الكرامةِhonor لكنْbut هَبْهُgrant it ليto me كرماout of generosity
Nor do I deserve a share granted me
And I do not deserve a fortune that you bestow upon me
Of honor; yet grant it to me out of generosity.
Out of generosity, but grant it to me generously.
ياO مَنْyou who رأىhas seen قدْرَهُhis stature يعلوrises above مواهِبَهُhis gifts
فليسand so he is not مُسْتَعْظِماًdeeming too great شيئاًanything وإنْeven if عَظُماit is great
O you who have seen your stature rise above your gifts,
O You who saw that his destiny surpassed his talents,
And so you deem nothing too great, however great it may be.
So nothing is too great, even if it is great.
