My two eyes, this is the springtime of tears: rally together,

And give me your utmost effort, without slackness.

It singled out the Imam and encompassed all the people:

    A loss—by the life of the death-dealing fates!—beyond repair.

The Imam's mother was struck down while he was beside her,

And there is no protector against the turns of fate.

Indeed, a decree of fate that snatched her away surmounted

An unassailable back and unconquered might.

If a blundering, night-blind she-camel were trampling us,

The people of virtue and goodness would not be sifted out.

Announce the death of the mother of the Commander of the Faithful to

    A well-frequented House in Mecca, in al-Batha.

Announce the death of beneficence's shepherdess, O its flock,

To every captive imprisoned in the land of the Romans,

And to the weakened frontier strongholds: long had she mounted

Their sons on sleek, fleet-running steeds.

The abodes of goodness have become desolate,

Without her, and disown their days of fellowship and light.

Let a seeker weep for her: she was his means,

Until he exchanged hardship for ease.

    أمسى يحاذر ذنباً غير مغفور

    And let the fearful one weep for her: she was his intercessor;

Now he fears an offense left unpardoned.

And let him weep for her qualities, which have no equal:

They summed up every description of every kind of goodness.

O spot where her grave was ordained,

You have indeed been singled out for hallowing and purification.

No harm if you are not an untouched meadow,

Lovely in blossom, delightful with flowers.

Your precinct now encloses a grave,

    Attended by the righteous angels.

May God's greeting, its purest and sweetest,

Rest upon the features of a face made radiant within you.

Lo, the sleep allotted to her has indeed fled

At the remembrance of a day remembered above all days.

A day—by your fortune—its lucky stars did not witness,

Nor behold as auspicious in its first signs.

Indeed, to God we shall be returned; it has not left

A single bone of ours unbroken, this calamity.

Yet some life surely remains in us, now that it has been kept safe—

The Imam's life—for us, from every danger.
