عينيّ جودا على حبيبِكما

عينيّ جودا على حبيبِكما

بالسَّجل فالسجلِ من صَبيبكما

بالسَّجل فالسجلِ من صَبيبكما

My two eyes, pour freely for your beloved,

My two eyes, pour generously over your beloved,

bucketful, then bucketful again, from your outpouring.

with bucketful after bucketful of your streaming tears.

لا تجمُدا لاتَ حينَ معذرةٍ

لا تجمُدا لاتَ حينَ معذرةٍ

ما لم تذوبا لمُستذيبِكما

ما لم تذوبا لمُستذيبِكما

Do not congeal—this is no time for excuses,

Do not stay dry; this is no time for excuses,

unless you melt for him who would melt you.

so long as you have not melted for him who asks you to melt.

فاستغزِرا درَّة السؤالِ على

فاستغزِرا درَّة السؤالِ على

بدرٍ كما بَلَّ قضيبكما

بدرٍ كما بَلَّ قضيبكما

Then pour the bucket-torrents copiously upon

So make the flow called forth by entreaty plentiful upon

a full moon, as your tender bough is drenched.

هذا فؤادي والرُّزء رزؤكما

هذا فؤادي والرُّزء رزؤكما

تبكي له عين مستثيبِكما

تبكي له عين مستثيبِكما

Here is my heart—and the bereavement is yours as well;

This is my heart, and the loss is your loss;

for him weeps the eye of one who seeks reward from you both.

the eye of one seeking your reward weeps for him.

فاستنكفا أن يكون غيرُكما

فاستنكفا أن يكون غيرُكما

أبكى لما فات من نصيبِكما

أبكى لما فات من نصيبِكما

So scorn to let anyone but you both

So disdain that anyone other than you should be

weep more for what has vanished from your share.

more tearful over what is lost of your share.
