    My plea is that you be certain I am a man

    From whose breast rancor has been erased,

    So that you do not deem me deserving

    Of a dire day that has no shade.

    And you are absolved, even if I suffer

    At your hands what absolution cannot encompass.

    A slave does not grow angry with his master,

    But a companion and a close friend do.

    And I will not turn my affection away from you,

    Or my judgment: you are everything, small and great.

    فلتُرقبِ الذمةُ والإلُّ

    And the covenant and the pledge have both been confirmed;

    So let the pledge and the covenant be honored.

    فلا يكنْ بعدهما سِلُّ

    There has already been pleurisy and its crisis;

    So let there be no consumption after them.
