May your affairs be perfected and completed,
For your affairs, completion and perfection,
and your standing exalted and magnified.
And for your destiny, aggrandizement and exaltation.

O you who is pleased with praises, knowing
that the blameworthy among men are truly blameworthy.
That the despicable among men is despicable.

O you who fortified yourself with gifts, certain
O you who is protected by tributaries, certain
that the miser among men is accursed.
That the stingy among men is damned.

O one who towered above the generous in rank—
O you under whose protection the noble dwells,
he is peerless, and whoever emulates him is generous.
He is the most gracious, and whoever emulates him is noble.

O you, whenever I mark my verse with your name,
O you whom when I attribute my poetry to your name,
that marking brings my verse no shame.
My poetry is not debased by that attribution.

Whoever has been a friend and companion to petitioners,
Whoever is gentle with the weak and a companion to them,
I say: you are an intimate friend to petitioners.
I say that you are intimate with the weak.

You surpassed men: no striving for greatness like yours
You surpass men, so your striving for elevation
do we see, nor any disposition like your own.
Is not a striving we see, nor is your ambition a ambition.

With kindness you conceal it, yet it proclaims itself
With righteousness you conceal him, and he discloses himself
always; you conceal it, though Tamim is within it.
Forever, while you conceal him, though he is defective.

Kindness is rain, and from you it is hoped for;
Hope is a rain and from you it is expected,
cheerfulness is lightning, watched in you for rain.
And good news is lightning and from you it originates.

ونتجتand you brought to delivery أمَّthe mother المجدِof glory وهيwhile she was عقيمُbarren
You made the mother of generosity conceive after her barrenness,
You made the mother of generosity fertile after her barrenness,
and made the mother of glory bear, though she was barren.
And the mother of glory gave birth while she was sterile.

You belittled the greatest bounty you bestowed,
You belittled the greatest of what you attain through your generosity,
so its exaltation came from us.
So from us came its aggrandizement unsolicited.

Ever humble, though you stand on a height,
Always humble while you are eminent,
ever making yourself small, though you are great.
Always self-effacing while you are great.

When men vie in boasting, there is only
So when men boast, your silence suffices,
silence from you, and acknowledgment from them.
While from them comes submission.

They testified, as men of knowledge, that you are a master;
They testified while they are scholars that you are master,
you kept silent, spared the need to speak, though knowledgeable.
And you were silent, sufficing, though you are knowledgeable.

Why not, when, whenever we ask, you are generous,
Why not, when you are, if we ask, preferential,
and whenever we make a slip, you are forbearing?
And if we slip, you are forbearing?

When we thank you for your first gift, you give again;
And if we thank you for your initial favor, you reward again,
whenever we complain of estrangement, you are merciful.
And if we complain of your aloofness, you have mercy.

Our hope in you is certainty itself;
Our hope in you is certainty itself,
our hope in others is guesswork.
While our hope in others is doubt.

We go forth at dawn, passing by the gates of kings;
We come early while the doors of kings bar us,
at your gate we turn aside and pitch our tents.
And at your door is supplication and humility.

God be praised for virtues whose purity you were granted,
God has traits whose purity
like pure wine mixed with Tasnim.
Is like the breeze in its gentle wafting.

فالمالُso the wealth ينغلُis eaten away والأديمُand the hide سليمُsound
They sent your generosity ravaging through your wealth:
Your generosity has roamed freely through your wealth,
the wealth is eaten away, while the hide remains sound.
So wealth becomes scarce but reputation remains unblemished.

May God reward you for all-embracing beneficence
God's gratitude to you is all-encompassing,
against which no reserve of stored wealth was protected.
No treasure was forbidden for Him to reward you.

But how can the Maker of makers thank you
when your genuine delight in doing them is longstanding?
When the sincerity of your affection is longstanding?

How wondrous your case: you are rewarded, while
I am amazed that you were rewarded when in truth
your bestowal of favors is itself bliss to you.
Your bestowal of bounty is for you a bliss.

Yet God's bounty is not withheld,
But the grace of God is not forbidden,
whereas withholding obstructs the bounty of one deemed miserly.
Since He deprived the grace of a miser of blessing.

Reward is lavished for deeds, for what is pleasant in them
Retribution for good and bad deeds is made sweet or bitter,
and what is painful, if any of them is painful.
If it is bitter then it is from the bitter.

O family of Hammad of high renown, among you are
O House of Hammad, the lofty, none among you
none but generous, noble, and wise men.
Except the generous, glorious, and wise.

Through you our sky clouds over in our drought,
With you our sky clouds over during our barrenness,
and doubts disperse when it clouds over.
And doubts dissipate when they gather.

Neither frivolity has mixed with it nor blame.

of speech, some is obligatory and some voluntary;
And of speech there are required duties and voluntary ones,
the obligatory must be given precedence.
The required takes precedence over the voluntary.

You have an unblameworthy custom concerning cotton,
You have a habit in autumn, not contemptible,
and it is finery, and you are Ibrahim.
Which is partridge hunting, and you are Abraham.

Its absence has lasted two years, one following the other,
And for its loss, two years you were chastised,
and our inability and silence deserve the blame.
Due to our incapacity and silence.

You did no wrong, so you incurred no blame; rather, the one
You did not wrong, you did not hurt, but the one
who abandoned seeking your bounty is unjust and blameworthy.
Who deprived you of your pleasure is a wrongdoer and brutal.

And when we were averse to you, but we were barred
a disposition that guarantees deprivation of our shares.
By a nature that leads in depriving of fortunes.

The base side of shyness arose and held us back;
The despicable flaunted his shamelessness, so he distanced us,
indeed, shyness before a generous man is base.
Shame in front of the noble is despicable.

We have asked pardon, and remorse is repentance;
We have become independent, and regret is repentance,
we have claimed our due, and the rightful claimant is a creditor.
And we have demanded, and the deserving is resolute.

So allot us a share of the yield of your cotton:
So portion to us from the yield of your cotton a share,
a generous man shares with those who hope in him.
The generous is a partner to his hopeful one.

Make it fine and plentiful, if you do so; you have always
Please, and increase if you do so, for you have not ceased
bestowed great gifts without calling them great.
To bestow the ample, so do not say it is ample.

With the two hands of a gracious, bountiful giver,
With hands that stretch from a preferential bestower
ever since he came to be, no destitute man has lacked his bounty.
Since his forefathers never lacked a destitute.

Each of them, to one who kisses it and hopes,
Both of them for a kisser and a hoper,
seeking your aid, is Zamzam and the Hatim.
Who hopes for your downpour like Zamzam and the torrent.

Do not invalidate a kindness you started,
a kindness deserves to be completed.
Surely its right is to complete it.

Shame on a suckling nursed to satiation
from you should be seen by people as a weaned child.
For you to see him and he still suckles.

And attend to the likes of me, for I cite
a parable; from you come understanding and explanation.
An example, and from you comes understanding and comprehension.

It has vegetation one time and stubble another.

And when I think the earth awakens its generosity

For various benefits while you are asleep.

It is most fitting for one to remain on his habits

An outright tear in generosity and its essence.

Would you cut off while the soil keeps giving?
Do I see you cutting off while the soil perpetuates?

The slender ones knew it is decisiveness.

as though I shared in what you own.
So it is as if I am entitled in what you possess.

Glory protects me through you while you are comfortable,

For one may become honored while injured.

And for your like, reminding not teaching.

How can one be corrected whose own uprightness suffices?
How can one corrected by his sustenance be corrected?
Uprightness came first, making correction unnecessary.
Correction preceded sustenance and so was dropped.

Take it, Abu Al-Abbas, from a pretentious one
whose praise of you is skillful and unceasing.
From whom a benefactor and prolonger liberates you.
