May you never lack joy, O son of Abu Bakr,

and may your medicine bring you health.

And may God prolong your life in honor

    that distresses all your enemies.

High in rank, your commands and prohibitions obeyed,

    you gladden all your friends.

When I was told you had taken medicine, I sought

a lofty gift commensurate with your eminence.

But what I possessed was deemed too paltry

for you—nay, even for a servant in your courtyard.

And I found gratitude and praise to be the finest

    thing offered to your peers.

So I sent prayers and gratitude; appreciate

the worth of two treasures that spoke of your eminence.
