May my father and mother be your ransom,

you band of kinsmen, O house of Malik!

What ails Time, that it escorts you

each day to places of destruction?

    Your undoing was that, unceasingly,

your defenders stood amid interlocking spears.

    Your ancestral roots held firm,

until you lay fallen on the battlefields.

May my father ransom your faces, which

were bloodied by the edges of hooves.

Yet once they were crescent moons

for people in the pitch-black darkness.

Must death afflict us through your loss,

and the paths to you be barred?

The way to visit you has become

    closed to every traveler.
