خالدٌ أُمٌّ وأنتَ أبٌ

خالدٌ أُمٌّ وأنتَ أبٌ

أيّها الشوكيُّ لا كَذِبا

أيّها الشوكيُّ لا كَذِبا

Khalid is a mother, and you are a father,

Khalid is the mother, and you are the father,

O al-Shawki—no lie.

O thorny one, no lies,

قد فَصلتُ الحكمَ بينكما

قد فَصلتُ الحكمَ بينكما

فاستريحا طال ذا تَعَبَا

فاستريحا طال ذا تَعَبَا

I have rendered judgment between you two;

I have made the judgment between you both,

So rest, both of you; this toil has lasted long.

So rest, for you have long suffered.
