It is not right that one who shuns a drinking place
When the right of one who was barred from a spring
because of some grit in it should be denied it.
By some debris in it that prevented him

Rather, his right is to have it purified for him,
Indeed, he has the right to have it cleared for him
so that, when thirsty, he may enjoy his drinking place.
That he may indulge at the resonance satisfied

أبى الفضلُ والطول أن يقطعه
God forbids your cutting off a man's livelihood;
God never decreed to cut off the provision of a man
bounty and munificence forbid cutting it off,
Excellence and virtue never decreed to cut it off

And that is nothing but the punishment of a man
And that is but the punishment of a man
on whose neck the sword saw its place.
Who saw the sword in the sheath its place

لقول أعاديه ما أضيعه
So if you would abandon a man entitled to respect
So if you are a protected Muslim
because of his enemies' words—how forsaken he is!—
For the words of enemies I do not waste it

Then hasten with the sword that you may conceal

The shame if you are able to kill him

أتسلمنا للردى ستة
وقدthough indeed كنتyou used to ترحمناhave mercy on us أربعهfour
وقد كنت ترحمنا أربعه
Will you surrender the six of us to death,
Did we surrender to evil six
though you had mercy on us when we were four?
While you used to pity us four
