كأنَّ نسيم الروض إبان نوره
أرذَّتsprinkled lightly عليهupon it مُزنةٌa rain cloud حينwhen أسْحراit entered the predawn hour
أرذَّت عليه مُزنةٌ حين أسْحرا
It is as though the garden breeze, when the garden is in bloom,
As if the meadow's breeze at dawn's first light
had been lightly sprinkled by a rain cloud before dawn.
Had sprinkled musk on it at morning bright
أتاناcame to us بهwith it رشٌّa light puff منof الريحthe wind لوif نأىwas distant
أتانا به رشٌّ من الريح لو نأى
مُعرَّسُناour resting place عنهaway from it مدىthe range of النَّبلarrows قصراwould have fallen short
مُعرَّسُنا عنه مدى النَّبل قصرا
A faint puff of wind brought it to us; had
A waft of wind brought it to us, although
our resting place been an arrow’s range away from it, it would have fallen short.
Without it, bows can shoot their shafts but short
