إذا شئتُ حيِّتني رياحينُ جنّةٍ

على سُوقها في كل حينٍ تَنفَّسُ

If you wish, the winds of Paradise greet me,

Breathing in its markets at all times,

وإن شئتُ ألْهاني سماعٌ بمثله

حمامٌ تغنَّى في غصونٍ تُوَسوسُ

And if you wish, the likes of it humbles me,

A pigeon that sings in whispering branches,

تُلاعبها أيدي الرياح إذا جرتْ

فَتَسمو وتَحنو تارةً فتنكَّس

The hands of the winds caress it when it flows,

So it rises and droops sometimes and it wilts,

إذا ما أعارتها الصَبا حركاتِها

أفادت بها أنسَ الحياة فتؤنس

If the zephyr lent it its motions,

It benefited from it the intimacy of life, so it befriends,

تَوامَضُ فيها كلَّما تَلع الضحى

كواكبُ يذكو نورُها حين تُشمس

In it flashes whenever the dawn plays,

Stars whose light ignites when it suns.
