دعوتَ لهم بتطويل العذابِ

If you wish people blessings on their fast,

If you bless a fast for a people

you pray for their torment to be prolonged.

You have invoked upon them lengthening of torment

وما التبريكُ في شَهرٍ طويلٍ

وما التبريكُ في شَهرٍ طويلٍ

يُطاولُ يومُهُ يوم الحسابِ

يُطاولُ يومُهُ يوم الحسابِ

And what blessing is there in a long month

And what blessing is there in a long month

whose day rivals the Day of Reckoning in length?

Whose day is as long as Judgement Day

فليت الليلَ فيه كان شهراً

فليت الليلَ فيه كان شهراً

ومرَّ نهارُهُ مرَّ السحابِ

ومرَّ نهارُهُ مرَّ السحابِ

So if only its night were a month long,

If only the night in it were a month

and its day passed as clouds pass!

And its day passed as fast as clouds

فلا أهلاً بمانعِ كُلِّ خيرٍ

فلا أهلاً بمانعِ كُلِّ خيرٍ

وأهلاً بالطعام والشرابِ

وأهلاً بالطعام والشرابِ

So no welcome to what bars all good,

There is no welcome for the hinderer of all good

and welcome to food and drink!
