إذا عَرُضَتْ لحيةٌ للفتى

إذا عَرُضَتْ لحيةٌ للفتى

وطالتْ وصارت إلى سُرَّتِهْ

وطالتْ وصارت إلى سُرَّتِهْ

If a young man's beard grows broad,

When a young man grows a beard

and grows long and reaches his navel,

That reaches down to his robe

فنُقصانُ عقلِ الفتى عندنا

فنُقصانُ عقلِ الفتى عندنا

بمقدار ما زاد في لحيتِهْ

بمقدار ما زاد في لحيتِهْ

then, in our view, the decline in the young man's intellect

Then in our view, the mind of the young man

is proportionate to the growth of his beard.

Diminishes as his beard lengthens
