I warn the people of the earth against Ibn Talib's edge,

For it has never ceased to be sharpened against those he befriends.

And the house of Makhlad has suffered at his hands

    Trials unlike any other trials.

    A blue-eyed little man, ill-omened, a ruddy little scourge

To his companions, a blazing ill omen over the people.

And does he resemble Mars without his conduct, too,

Closely matching that of his baleful counterpart?

I seek refuge in God's might from being brought together

With him in any part of the broad earth.

He is like Qudar—rather, Qudar is like him,

Though called a speaker, though called a scribe.

And can people dispute the ill omen of a scribe

Whose eyes have a sword's color—and the sword cuts?

And his father is called Talib; let this suffice you

As an ill omen in that name: Death is a pursuer.

Take heed: flee from Talib and Ibn Talib,

For a fugitive took flight from a pursuer like those two.
