ويشفي القلوبَ الحائمات الصواديا

I took solace in saliva whose coolness drives sleep away,

I excused a saliva that its coldness dispels sleep

and heals the hovering, thirst-parched hearts.

And heals hearts raging in anguish

وهل ثَغَبٌ حصباؤه مثلُ ثغرِها

وهل ثَغَبٌ حصباؤه مثلُ ثغرِها

يصادَفُ إلا طَيِّبَ الطعمِ صافيا

يصادَفُ إلا طَيِّبَ الطعمِ صافيا

And is a pool whose pebbles resemble her teeth

Is any pebbles like her mouth

ever found to be anything but sweet-tasting and clear?

That meets nothing but the most exquisite taste
