I say: two gazelles passed by, then turned away;
I say, two does crossed my path,
and the gray at my hair’s partings startled them both.
And an old man herded them away from me.
أأطيشmost off-target? ماwhen كانتwere سهاميmy arrows عنكماaway from you both
أأطيش ما كانت سهامي عنكما
تصدانyou both turn away عنيfrom me إنّindeed ذاthis لعجيبtruly strange
تصدان عني إنّ ذا لعجيب
Is it when my arrows stray farthest from you both
Would my arrows go astray, were they aimed at you?
that you turn away from me? This is strange indeed.
That you should turn them away from me is strange indeed.
