رأيتكI saw you بيناwhile أنتyou خلٌّa close friend وصاحبٌand a companion
إذاsuddenly أنتyou قدalready وليتناyou turned away from us ثانياًturning aside عطفاa side
I saw you, while you were a close friend and companion,
I saw you among us, alone and companionless,
Suddenly turn away from us, your side averted.
When you turned away from us again unkindly.
فإنكfor indeed you إذwhen أحنىmost tender حنوَّكyour tenderness معقبٌbringing in its wake
بعاداًdistance لِمَنfor whoever باذلتَهyou shared with him الودَّlove والعطفاand affection
For when you are most tender, you bring in your wake
For when a pursuer bowed down out of yearning,
Distance for the one with whom you shared love and affection.
You spurned the one you had treated with love and kindness before.
لكالقوسindeed like the bow أحنىmost bent ماwhen تكونit is إذاwhen حنتit bends
علىover السهمthe arrow أنأىfarthest away ماwhen تكونit is لهfor it قذفاin casting
You are indeed like the bow: when it bends most deeply
Just like a bow bends most when it is drawn,
Over the arrow, it casts it farthest away.
And retreats farthest from the arrow it shoots forcefully.
