I posed a riddle to Fadl, a man of discernment,

who has always been a diligent student of wisdom:

What thing is common to all Adam's children,

for which people taunt other people?

One deliberately sets out to do it,

    and people see no harm in it;

yet when he does it by accident,

he hangs his head in shame.

O Wahb of the fart, do not grieve,

    for arses have breaths.

Arses may speak in a gathering,

and mouths are filled with silence.

So fart for us once more, without embarrassment,

as though you had ripped a sheet of paper,

to keep the first one company with it, as a kindness,

    for it seeks companionship.
