رأيتُ الأخلّاء في دهرنا

رأيتُ الأخلّاء في دهرنا

وأجدِرْ بنائبةٍ أن تنوبا

وأجدِرْ بنائبةٍ أن تنوبا

I have seen what close friends are like in our age—

I saw the false friends in our time

and how likely a calamity is to strike—

More deserving of blame when they abandon

إذا حشدوا لأخٍ مرةً

إذا حشدوا لأخٍ مرةً

أظلُّوه للمَنِّ عَوْداً رَكوبا

أظلُّوه للمَنِّ عَوْداً رَكوبا

when they rally once for a brother,

If they gather around a brother once

they keep him as an old camel to ride, reminding him of their favors.

They make him a riding camel for favors

سأستَنصرُ اللَّهَ حسبي بهِ

سأستَنصرُ اللَّهَ حسبي بهِ

نصيراً وإلا فحسبي حسيبا

نصيراً وإلا فحسبي حسيبا

I shall seek God's help; He is enough for me

I will seek victory from Allah alone

as a helper; and if not, He is enough for me as a reckoner.

As my protector, and if not, He suffices me
