سلوتُI let go of الرضاعَsuckling والشبابَand youth كليهماboth of them
فكيفso how تُرانيdo you see me سالياًletting go of ماwhat سواهماis other than those two
I have let go of suckling and youth alike;
I bid farewell to nursing and youth altogether,
so how do you think I shall fare in letting go of all else?
So how can you see me shedding tears for anything but them?
وماand not أحدثَbrought about العصرانday and night شيئاًanything نكرتُهُI found it strange
هماthey two الواهبانthe two givers الساليانthe two who forget هماthey two هماthey two
And day and night brought about nothing I found strange.
And I have rejected nothing new that the times have brought,
They are the givers, the ones who forget—they are what they are.
It is they who were the givers, they are the ones I miss!
رأيتُI found احتسابَanticipating الأمرthe event قبلbefore وقوعهِits occurrence
حمىprotected مُقلتيَّmy two eyes أنthat يطولَshould last long بُكاهماtheir weeping
I found that anticipating an event before it happened
I saw how to cope with something before it happened,
protected my two eyes from prolonged weeping.
I shielded my eyes so as not to prolong their weeping.
