I ceased to yearn for شَبابيmy youth والرّضاعَand suckling كليهماboth of them
فكيفso how تُرانيdo you see me سالياًletting go of ماwhat سِواهُماis other than those two
I have ceased to yearn for both my youth and my days at the breast;
I have lost my youth and all of its suckling,
How, then, do you think I fare in letting go of all else?
So how can you see me asking except for them both.
وماand not أحدثَbrought about العَصْرانnight and day شيئاًanything نكرْتُهI found it strange
هماthey both الواهبانthe two givers السالبانthe two takers هماthey both هُماthey both
Night and day have brought about nothing I found strange;
Time has brought nothing which I refuse,
They are the givers and the takers; they are what they are.
It is they who give and take away, they are it.

حَمَىprotected مُقْلَتَيَّmy two eyes أنْthat يطولَlast long بُكَاهُماtheir weeping
I found that anticipating an event before its occurrence
I saw to consider the matter before its occurrence,
Kept my two eyes from prolonged weeping.
To spare my eyes from prolonged weeping for them.
