رأيتُ التقاط جنى نخلة

إذا ساقطته ولم ترقَها

إذا ساقطته ولم ترقَها

I found that picking up a date palm’s fruit,

I saw the gathering of the palm tree's fruit

When it lets it fall and you do not climb it,

When it falls though the palm does not shake it off

أكَنَّ لكفك من شوكها

أكَنَّ لكفك من شوكها

وإن هي لم توفها حقها

وإن هي لم توفها حقها

Better shields your hand from its thorns,

Would your palm be hurt by its thorns

Even if the palm has not given your hand its full due.

Though it does not give it its due right

لقد أحسنت نخلة أنزلت

لقد أحسنت نخلة أنزلت

على كف ممتاحها رزقها

على كف ممتاحها رزقها

A palm has indeed done well in sending down

The palm tree did well when it lowered

Its bounty onto the hand of the one who draws from it,

Its sustenance onto an outstretched palm

وما جشمت كفه شوكها

وما جشمت كفه شوكها

ولا جشمت رجله سُحقها

ولا جشمت رجله سُحقها

And has not burdened his hand with its thorns,

Its thorns did not scratch the palm

Nor burdened his foot with its towering height.

Nor did its spikes scratch the sole
