I see myself made happy through his great deeds, O son of Sa'id
and he is not far from receiving my thanks.
And my gratitude to him is no small thing

A young man—a first kindness from his deeds came my way,
A young man whose actions started me off
in which I found the joy I feel on a feast-day morning.
With which I forgot my morning loneliness on the feast day

Through him, land whose soil is foul grows sweet,
The ground, vile as it is, smells sweet because of it
and land already sweet grows sweeter still in its soil.
And the already sweet become sweeter still

So do not deem my praise, with my thanks, slow in coming; for it
So do not hide my praise with the thanks, for it is
is surely between two constant companions, one of each.

When my soul feels safe from the threats of its time,
When my soul feels safe from the threats of fate
relying on Ibn Sa‘id, it is frightened by no threat.
Through ibn Sa'id, it has no fear of threats
