I did not explain its unfamiliar words for you, but

for someone other than you who does not know such words.

You are too exalted to be taught any knowledge,

or for a learned man's reach to approach your own.

Yet I hoped my poetry would win favor

when your eyes graze in its gardens.

So I explained its unfamiliar words, hoping

that one day your young attendant might be taught to recite it,

or another among those you hold dear, one who

does not keep pace with you in learning.

I did not expect that out of conceit, but

I hope for it, trusting in your favorable opinion.

So extend your pardon to me, praiseworthy as you are,

along with the bounty you extend.
