لم أخضب الشيب للغواني

أبغي به عندهم ودادا

I did not dye my gray hair for beautiful women,

I did not dye my hair white for the youths,

seeking thereby their affection.

Seeking their affection through it.

لكن خضابي على شبابي

لكن خضابي على شبابي

لَبِسْتُ من بعده حدادا

لَبِسْتُ من بعده حدادا

Rather, my dye is for my youth:

Rather my dye upon my youth

after its passing, I donned mourning black.

Is the mourning clothes I donned after it.
