I complain of parting to reunion,
I complain of parting to the tryst,
and to slumber, of my sleepless eyes;
And to the ruins wakeful lamentations,

وإلى السلوِّ تفجعي
وإلىand to التصبرpatient endurance ماwhat ألاقيI suffer
وإلى التصبر ما ألاقي
and to forgetfulness, of my anguish;
And to the night-walk my agony,
and to patient endurance, of what I suffer;
And to patience unavailing my plaint,

And unto Him to whom I was enthralled
from me by separation, of my long yearning.
By the casting down of my glance long my yearning,

لما طوته يدُ الفراق
And it folded my heart around burning grief,
And I folded my heart upon my cheek
when the hand of parting folded him away.
When she folded her hand from my clasp.

Patience—for many a parting
Have patience: for perchance this parting
brings closeness and concord.
May bring us together sometime in nearness and concord.
