فحللتُ ربعاً منك ليس بمقفرِ
How many a lifeless, desolate stretch of land I have crossed!
How many barren deserts have I crossed,
Then I settled in an abode of yours that is not desolate.
Yet a quarter of you is no desert to me.

Generosity like a torrent's—except that the latter
Your generosity is like a flood, though yours

Is muddy while your calling is not muddied.

تتوقع الحبلى لتسعة أشهر
A year has passed, and your bounty has not given birth; yet
A year has gone by without your bounty, though
a pregnant woman is expected to deliver after nine months.
A pregnant woman waits for just nine months.

Give me but one sea in which to drown you, and
a sea I mix with seven seas.
I will repay you with seven seas.
