قدindeed بلىafflicted اللَّهGod يونسَYunus بنson of بُغاءٍBughāʾ
قد بلى اللَّه يونسَ بن بُغاءٍ
ببلاءِwith the ordeal of النبيّthe prophet يونسَYunus قَبْلَهْbefore him
ببلاءِ النبيّ يونسَ قَبْلَهْ
God has afflicted Yunus son of Bughāʾ
God has indeed afflicted Yunus son of Bugha
with the ordeal of the prophet Yunus before him.
With the affliction of the prophet Yunus before him
يبلعُswallows الحوتُthe whale بعضهpart of him كلَّevery يومday
يبلعُ الحوتُ بعضه كلَّ يوم
ليْتَهif only it يبلعُwould swallow المسكينَthe poor fellow جُمْلهwhole
ليْتَه يبلعُ المسكينَ جُمْله
The whale swallows part of him each day;
The whale swallows some of him every day
if only it would swallow the poor fellow whole!
If only it would swallow the poor fellow whole
