غيَّره الكونُ والفسادُ

ولاح في خده سوادُ

ولاح في خده سوادُ

Generation and decay have changed him;

The universe and corruption changed him,

And blackness has appeared on his cheek.

And blackness shone on his cheek,

كأنه دمنة أمحَّتْ

كأنه دمنة أمحَّتْ

فكلُّ آثارها رمادُ

فكلُّ آثارها رمادُ

As though he were a campsite worn away,

As if it were a dunghill that was extinguished,

So all its traces are ash.

And all its traces turned to ashes.
