ماnot أَستزيدI ask for more لقاسمٍfor Qasim
ما أَستزيد لقاسمٍ
منfrom رَبِّهِhis Lord غيرَother than البقاءِcontinued life
من رَبِّهِ غيرَ البقاءِ
For Qasim, I ask for no more
I ask of my Lord for Qasim naught
from his Lord than continued life.
But an abiding permanence
وكذاكand likewise لستُI am not أُريدI desire منـfrom
وكذاك لستُ أُريد منـ
ـهhim سوىexcept البقاءcontinued life معtogether with اللقاءِthe meeting
ـه سوى البقاء مع اللقاءِ
And likewise I desire nothing from
And so too, I desire of him
him but continued life together with our meetings.
Only permanence with his presence
حَسْبيenough for me بذاكin that سعادةًhappiness
حَسْبي بذاك سعادةً
فيهاin it الأمانُsafety منfrom الشقاءِmisery
فيها الأمانُ من الشقاءِ
That is happiness enough for me,
That suffices me as happiness,
in which there is safety from misery.
Wherein lies safety from misery
كفِلتْit has guaranteed بكبتٍwith humiliation للعِداfor foes
كفِلتْ بكبتٍ للعِدا
ومسرةٍand joy للأصدقاءِfor friends
ومسرةٍ للأصدقاءِ
It guarantees humiliation for foes
It protects from animosity
and joy for friends.
And delights companions amicably
واللَّهُand God بعدُfurthermore يزيدهgrants him more
واللَّهُ بعدُ يزيده
أعلىthe highest مَنالةِattainment ذيof one possessing ارتقاءِascent
أعلى مَنالةِ ذي ارتقاءِ
And God, moreover, grants him
Then God will grant him even more
the highest attainment of any who rise,
Of the highest level of ascent
ويزيدنيand grants me more منof غيثِهhis rain
ويزيدني من غيثِه
وغياثِهand his succor الهَزِمleaking السِّقاءِthe waterskin
وغياثِه الهَزِم السِّقاءِ
and grants me more of his rain
And grant me from His rainclouds
and his succor, with its leaking waterskin.
His relief that defeats thirst
ملكa king كأنas though خِلالهhis virtues
ملك كأن خِلاله
خُلقتْwere created لهfor him بعدafter انتقاءِselection
خُلقتْ له بعد انتقاءِ
A king whose virtues seem
A king, as if created for him
to have been created for him after selection.
After much searching and selection
عافيهِone seeking his bounty عِلْقُa precious treasure صيانةٍsafekeeping
عافيهِ عِلْقُ صيانةٍ
وثَراؤُهand his wealth تُرْسa shield اتِّقاءِprotection
وثَراؤُه تُرْس اتِّقاءِ
His petitioner is a treasure to be safeguarded,
His health is a veil of protection
and his wealth a shield against harm.
His wealth, a shield against transgression
يَلقاكgreets you نَشْرُfragrance ثنائِهpraise of him
يَلقاك نَشْرُ ثنائِه
ونسيمُهand its breeze قبلَbefore اللقاءِthe meeting
ونسيمُه قبلَ اللقاءِ
The fragrance of his praise greets you,
The fragrance of his praise precedes him
and its breeze, before you meet him.
And its breeze comes before meeting him
كمhow often قدindeed وردتُI came to drink سَماحَهhis generosity
كم قد وردتُ سَماحَه
فسُقيتُso I was given drink منهfrom it بلاwithout استقاءِdrawing water
فسُقيتُ منه بلا استقاءِ
How often have I come to his bounty
How often have I found his kindness
and been given drink from it without drawing water!
And from it drank without drawing it
كمhow often زارنيvisited me معروفُهhis kindness
كم زارني معروفُه
منfrom قبلِbefore وعدٍa promise بالْتِقاءِto meet
من قبلِ وعدٍ بالْتِقاءِ
How often has his kindness visited me
How often has his benevolence visited me
before any promise of a meeting!
Even before a promise to meet
هلis there منany وفاءٍrepayment كُفؤُهُhis equal
هل من وفاءٍ كُفؤُهُ
فَيَفِيso it may repay حَقيقاًone deserving بالوفاءِof repayment
فَيَفِي حَقيقاً بالوفاءِ
Is there any repayment to match him,
Is there any loyalty equal to his
that might repay one deserving of repayment?
That truly fulfills loyalty?
