فإن يك سيارُ بن مُكْرَمٍ انقضى

فإن يك سيارُ بن مُكْرَمٍ انقضى

فإنك ماء الورد إن ذهب الوردُ

فإنك ماء الورد إن ذهب الوردُ

For if Sayyār ibn Mukram has passed away,

If the time of Siyar son of Mukram has passed away,

then you are rosewater, even if the rose is gone.

Yet you are rosewater, though the rose itself is gone.

مضى وبنوه وانفردْتَ بفضلهم

مضى وبنوه وانفردْتَ بفضلهم

وألْفٌ إذا ما جُمِّعتْ واحدٌ فردُ

وألْفٌ إذا ما جُمِّعتْ واحدٌ فردُ

He and his sons have passed away, and you alone possess their excellence;

He and his sons are gone, but still their merit remains with you,

and a thousand, when gathered together, are one unique individual.

For when thousands combine they count but as a single one.
