إنif كنتَyou have ضِنّاًout of fond concern بيfor me عَتبْتَyou reproached لأنَّنيbecause I
إن كنتَ ضِنّاً بي عَتبْتَ لأنَّني
أخْلَلْتُI fell short فاقصدْthen be moderate فيin العتابreproach وأسجحِand be gentle
أخْلَلْتُ فاقصدْ في العتاب وأسجحِ
If, out of care for me, you have reproached me because I
Have fallen short, be moderate in reproach and be gentle.
لاdo not تُفْسِدَنِّيruin me بالتَّعسُّفِthrough harshness بعدماafter
لا تُفْسِدَنِّي بالتَّعسُّفِ بعدما
بلَغَhas reached التَّألُّفُconciliation غَايَةَthe goal المُسْتَصْلِحِof one seeking reform
بلَغَ التَّألُّفُ غَايَةَ المُسْتَصْلِحِ
Do not ruin me through harshness, after
Conciliation has achieved the reformer's aim.
واعلمْand know بأنِّيthat I إنْif أسَأتُhave done wrong جِنَايَةًby offending
واعلمْ بأنِّي إنْ أسَأتُ جِنَايَةً
وأسأتَand you have done wrong أنْتَyou yourself رِعَايَةًin your care لمdid not تَرْجحِyou prove superior
وأسأتَ أنْتَ رِعَايَةً لم تَرْجحِ
And know that if I have done wrong by offending,
And you have done wrong in your care, you are no better.
أرْبِحgrant as profit مُعَامِلَكَyour partner in dealings التَّسَاهُلَleniency غالِياًrising high
أرْبِح مُعَامِلَكَ التَّسَاهُلَ غالِياً
عَنْabove أنْto تُعَدَّyou be deemed مُعَامِلاًa partner in dealings لَمْdid not يُرْبِحِhe grant profit
عَنْ أنْ تُعَدَّ مُعَامِلاً لَمْ يُرْبِحِ
Grant your partner leniency as profit, rising
Above being deemed a partner who grants no profit.
