غنَّتshe sang فمسَّand touched القلبَthe heart كلُّevery كرْبِanguish
غنَّت فمسَّ القلبَ كلُّ كرْبِ
واستوجبتْand she deserved مناfrom us أليمَpainful الضربِbeating
واستوجبتْ منا أليمَ الضربِ
She sang, and every anguish touched the heart.
And deserved a painful beating from us.
لهاshe has فمٌa mouth مثلُlike اتِّساعthe width of الدَّربِthe road
لها فمٌ مثلُ اتِّساع الدَّربِ
وفَقْحةٌand an anus مشقوقةٌsplit open بالزُّبِby a cock
وفَقْحةٌ مشقوقةٌ بالزُّبِ
She has a mouth as wide as a road,
And an anus split open by a cock.
بَقْباقةٌa gurgler كبقبقاتlike the gurgles of الحُبّthe water jar
بَقْباقةٌ كبقبقات الحُبّ
هدَّارةٌa bellower مثلُlike هديرthe roaring of النُّجْبِfine-bred camels
هدَّارةٌ مثلُ هدير النُّجْبِ
She gurgles like the gurgling of a water jar,
She bellows like the roaring of fine-bred camels.
وهْيand she علىdespite ماwhat أظهرتshe has shown منof عُجْبِconceit
وهْي على ما أظهرت من عُجْبِ
وتدَّعيهand she claims it منof شَجىًheartache وحُبِّand love
وتدَّعيه من شَجىً وحُبِّ
Yet she, for all the conceit she has shown,
And the heartache and love she claims,
وتشتكيهand she complains of it منof رياحwind الجَنْبِthe side
وتشتكيه من رياح الجَنْبِ
نافرةُharsh الصَّوتthe voice خَرُوجstraying from الضَّربِthe beat
نافرةُ الصَّوت خَرُوج الضَّربِ
And the wind in her side she complains of,
Is harsh of voice and off the beat.
حَسْبِيَenough for me مِنهاof her ياO نديميmy drinking companion حسبيenough for me
حَسْبِيَ مِنها يا نديمي حسبي
قدindeed أَصدأَتْshe has rusted سمعيmy hearing وغمَّتْand she has clouded قلبيmy heart
قد أَصدأَتْ سمعي وغمَّتْ قلبي
Enough of her, my drinking companion, enough!
She has indeed rusted my hearing and clouded my heart.
