يا مانعي باليأسِ مِنْ
إحسانهِhis kindness روحَsolace التمنِّيhope
إحسانهِ روحَ التمنِّي
O you who deny me, through despair of
his kindness, the solace of hope,
ومُرَوِّعيand you who frighten me فيin كلevery يوday (first part)
ومُرَوِّعي في كل يو
مٍcompletion of 'day' بالقطيعةwith estrangement والتجنِّيand unjust reproach
مٍ بالقطيعة والتجنِّي
and you who frighten me every
day with estrangement and unjust reproach—
ماnot هكذاthus بكَof you كانwas حيwhen (first part)
ما هكذا بكَ كان حي
نَcompletion of 'when' بدأتَنيyou first treated me بالوصلwith affection ظنِّيmy expectation
نَ بدأتَني بالوصل ظنِّي
this was not what I expected of you
when you first showed me affection.
إنيindeed I لأرحمُsurely pity منthe one whom وصلbefriended (verb stem)
إني لأرحمُ من وصل
تَyou (verb ending) وإنand even though عدلتَyou turned إليهtoward him عَنِّيaway from me
تَ وإن عدلتَ إليه عَنِّي
I do indeed pity the one
you have befriended, though you have turned from me to him.
