شكوتI complained إِلىto بدريmy full moon هواهlove for him فقالso he said ليto me
ألستare you not ترىyou see بدرthe full moon السماءthe sky الذيwhich يسريtravels by night
I complained to my full moon of my love for him; he said to me:
“Do you not see the full moon of the sky that journeys by night?”
فقلتso I said بلىyes قالhe said التمسهُseek it فإنهfor it is
نظيريmy equal وشِبهيand my likeness فيin علويmy loftiness وفيand in قدريmy rank
I said, “Yes.” He said, “Seek it, for it is
my equal and my likeness in loftiness and rank.
فإنso if نلتهُyou attain it فاعلمthen know بأنكthat you نائليwill attain me
وإنand if لمnot تنلهُyou attain it فابغthen seek أمراًa matter سوىother than أمريmy affair
If you attain it, know that you will attain me;
and if you do not attain it, seek some aim other than winning me.”
فكانso was كلاeach of the two البدرينfull moons صعباًdifficult مرامُهُits attainment
ليَto me الويلwoe منfrom بدرthe full moon السماءthe sky ومنand from بدريmy full moon
So each of the two full moons proved hard to attain.
Woe to me from the full moon of the sky and from my full moon!
