قدِم الفطر صاحباً مودُودا

قدِم الفطر صاحباً مودُودا

ومضى الصوم صاحباً محمودا

ومضى الصوم صاحباً محمودا

Eid al-Fitr arrived as a beloved companion.

The breaking of the fast has come as a friend,

And fasting departed as a praised companion.

While fasting has passed, a commendable companion.

ذهب الصوم وهو يحكيك نُسْكاً

ذهب الصوم وهو يحكيك نُسْكاً

وأتى الفطرُ هو يحكيك جودا

وأتى الفطرُ هو يحكيك جودا

Fasting departed, resembling you in devotion.

Fasting has gone while telling you of devotion,

And Eid al-Fitr came, resembling you in generosity.

And the breaking of the fast has come telling you of generosity.

وشبيهاك لا يَخونانك العَهْـ

وشبيهاك لا يَخونانك العَهْـ

ـدَ لعمري بل يرعيان العهودا

ـدَ لعمري بل يرعيان العهودا

And your two likenesses do not betray their covenant with you—

And the two are never disloyal to you, by my life,

by my life! Rather, they honor their covenants.

Rather they uphold their covenants.

وستبقى عليهما ويعُودا

وستبقى عليهما ويعُودا

ن كما أنت مُشْتَهٍ أن يعودا

ن كما أنت مُشْتَهٍ أن يعودا

And you will outlive them both, and they will return

And you will remain with them and they will return

just as you long for them to return.

As you wish them to return again and again.

جعل اللَّه عمر شانئك المقْـ

جعل اللَّه عمر شانئك المقْـ

ـصورَ حتماً وعمرَك الممدودا

ـصورَ حتماً وعمرَك الممدودا

May God shorten the life of the one who hates you—

May God make the lives of those who oppose you short,

without fail—and prolong your own.

And make your life long.
