ياO ثوبَهُhis robe الأزرقَblue الذيwhich قدhas
يا ثوبَهُ الأزرقَ الذي قد
فاقَoutshone العِراقيَّthe Iraqi فيin السناءِradiance
فاقَ العِراقيَّ في السناءِ
O blue robe of his, which has
outshone the Iraqi in radiance!
كأنهas though he were فيهin it بدرُa full moon تِمٍّfullness
كأنه فيه بدرُ تِمٍّ
يَشُقُّcleaves منfrom زرقةthe blueness of السماءِthe sky
يَشُقُّ من زرقة السماءِ
In it, he is like a full moon,
cleaving through the blue of the sky.
