    Listen, tell our lord—tell him

words that, once spoken, will not be revoked.

We saw the man known as al-Husayn—

your brother, possessed of the loftiest nobility—

offer praise of you that is not lawful,

O son of glory's towering mountains.

Are not rhymes a young man's daughters,

if truth's image has not been distorted?

    Then never accept his panegyrics:

marrying a brother's daughters is forbidden.

    يُقلْ مَن ذُكْرْتُم له بَخْ بَخِ

    Take this ruling, my brother, and you will be spoken of;

'Bravo! Bravo!' will be said by whoever hears you mentioned.

And none who hopes in you is threadbare-clad,

by my life, nor is his kitchen white.
